§ 32. Mr. Hugh Fraserasked the Secretary of State for the Home Department what discussions he has had with the Northern Ireland Government regarding safeguarding the lives of British troops at the proposed major traditional marches to be held in July in Belfast and in August in Londonderry.
§ Mr. MaudlingThe United Kingdom and Northern Ireland Governments are at all times concerned to reduce the risks created by marches in Northern Ireland; and there is regular consultation between the security forces and the Northern Ireland Government through the machinery of the Joint Security Committee. Specific measures to safeguard the lives of British troops are the responsibility of my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Defence.
