HC Deb 24 June 1971 vol 819 cc321-2W
44. Mr. Willey

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what reply he has given to the statement on Premises for Effective Industrial Training in North-East England submitted by the Trade Union Panel of the North-East Development Council; and what action he has taken to improve industrial training in North-East England.

Mr. Dudley Smith

A Press Notice commended the Statement to employers and trade unions in February, 1970 and officials then discussed it with the Trade Union Panel. My hon. Friend the Minister of State offered to discuss it further at a convenient opportunity when he wrote to the Chairman of the Council in March.

A new Government Training Centre has recently opened at Middlesbrough and the capacity of the other five Centres has been increased as has the amount of Government-supported training in Colleges of Further Education.
