Mr. Juddasked the Minister for the Civil Service whether he will make a statement on his plans to increase the pay of civilian employees in the Ministry of Defence, including those in Royal Navy dockyards; and to what extent they will take into account the increase in the cost of living since the introduction of the last general pay award.
§ Mr. David HowellAn offer of 7½ per cent. on average from 1st July, 1971, was made on 7th June and rejected by the trade union side of the Joint Co-ordinating Committee for Government Industrial Establishments. Negotiations are proceeding. The cost of living was one of the factors taken into account in making this offer.
