§ Mr. Warrenasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what is his policy towards the provision of L-Band aeronautical navigation and communication satellite systems.
§ Mr. David PriceThe United Kingdom agrees with the recommendation of the International Civil Aviation Organisation that L-Band frequencies should be used for aeronautical satellites. In addition, it is Government policy that possible provision of such satellites should be responsive to the needs of that Organisation and should be progressed within a broad international framework. The United Kingdom is therefore supporting the current experimental and evaluation work being carried out by the European Space Research Organisation. At the same time, together with our European partners, we are seeking wider international co-operation, particularly with the United States.
