§ Mr. Anthony StodartConsumption of sugar in the United Kingdom in 1970 was 2.66 million tons and the latest provisional figure for production from the 1970 beet crop is 892,000 tons. It is estimated that production of sugar from beet in the European Economic Community in 1970–71 will exceed requirements for human consumption by about 425,000 tons.
