§ Mr. Sillarsasked the Secretary of State for Scotland what recent representations he has received from Cumnock Town Council about the need to build a further advance factory at Caponacre Industrial Estate; and if he will make a statement.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellA deputation from Cumnock Town Council met officials of my Department and the Department of Trade and Industry to discuss this matter on 21st May, following an approach from the town clerk to my 345W hon. Friend, the Under-Secretary of State for Development. Responsibility for the authorisation of Government advance factories rests with my right hon. Friend, the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry, and the deputation was assured that the needs of the Cumnock area would be borne in mind by his Department when further advance factory building was being considered.
