Mr. Ralph Howellasked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total amount paid out in unemployment benefits and wage-related benefits in the latest week for which these figures are available and the total amount paid out for similar benefits in the corresponding week 12 months previously.
§ Mr. BryanWeekly figures are not maintained for unemployed persons under 18 who register at careers offices administered by local education authorities. For all others the total for the week ending 9th July, 1971, was £3,340,300 and for the week ending 10th July, 1970, £2,389,753. Separate figures for flat-rate benefit and earnings-related supplement are not available.
