§ Mr. Ashleyasked the Secretary of State for Employment if he will make a statement on the present employment situation for school leavers and young people in North Staffordshire; and what proposals he has to assist those who will be seeking jobs at the end of July.
§ Mr. Dudley SmithOn 12th July, 1971. there were 323 young people registered as unemployed in North Staffordshire, including 87 school leavers. It is estimated that about 4,100 young people are leaving school for employment this summer, and a number have already obtained employment. Careers officers are doing everything possible to assist the remainder, who should find jobs within a reasonable period.
