§ 66 and 69. Mr. Abseasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry (1) in view of the announcement of the reduction by Imperial Chemical Industries Fibres Limited of 535 jobs at their factory at Pontypool, what further measures he intends to take to bring alternative employment into this development area;
(2) whether, in view of the announcement of large numbers of redundancies at Pontypool, he will now make this area a special development area.
§ Sir J. EdenI do not think any change in status is justified at present. Substantial incentives are available to encourage industrial development in the area which should also benefit from the measures announced recently by my right hon. Friends the Secretary of State for Wales and the Chancellor of the Exchequer.
