§ Mr. Lathamasked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry whether he will take legislative or administrative steps to discourage finance companies from enticing mortgagors to take out second mortgages on their properties.
§ Mr. Ridley: Several of the recommendations of the Committee on Consumer Credit, under the Chairmanship of Lord Crowther, would affect the activities of companies offering second mortgages. The Report of the Committee is under urgent consideration.
