Affairs whether he will make a statement on his policy following the decision, announced on 14th July, of the new Government of Iceland to extend her fishing limits to 50 miles no later than 1st September, 1972 ; and that all existing agreements with Great Britain and West Germany will accordingly be cancelled.
§ Mr. Anthony Royle: We are studying carefully the statement made by the Icelandic Government. However, no specific proposal related to the Agreement of 1961 between the two Governments has yet been put to us by the Icelandic Government. As my right hon. Friend the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries and Food said in answer to a Question on 29th June, we have no doubt that an extension beyond the present 12-mile limit would be contrary to international law.—[Vol. 820 c. 63.]
