HC Deb 15 July 1971 vol 821 c134W
42. Mr. Ashley

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department how many allegations of discrimination in the law relating to women serving on juries have been made in the last 12 months to his Department ; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Carlisle

Nine communications have been received directly, or by implication, representing that the law on jury service discriminates against women.

As stated in reply to a Question by my hon. and learned Friend the Member for South Fylde (Mr. Gardner) on 18th March, my right hon. Friend is considering the implementation of the Report of the Departmental Committee on Jury Service as a possible subject for legislation when pressures on parliamentary time permit. He has much in mind the effect of the present law as regards jury service by women.
