§ Mr. Meacherasked the Secretary of State for Social Services what criteria have been recommended to local authorities in exercising their responsibility under Section 21 of the National Assistance Act, 1948 to provide suitable temporary accommodation for the homeless; and by what means he discovers whether these criteria are met by each local authority.
§ Mr. DeanGuidance was given to local authorities in circulars issued in 1966 and 1967 copies of which I am sending to the hon. Member. The Department's Regional Social Work Service Officers keep the services provided by local authorities under review.
