HL Deb 28 January 1971 vol 314 c1110WA
THE EARL OF LAUDERDALE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What are their plans for modifying fuel oil tax as an approach to harmonisation of fuel tax policies with members of the E.E.C. seeing that British fuel oil prices are approximately related to those of France, Germany and Benelux by indices around 130, 116, 107 and 100 respectively.

THE LORD PRIVY SEAL (EARL JELLICOE)

No agreement has yet been reached in the European Economic Community about harmonised rates of tax on fuel oil, and I understand that harmonisation is likely to be some years ahead. Her Majesty's Government will of course keep in touch with developments.

House adjourned at twenty-seven minutes before six o'clock.
