§ Mr. Wallasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will make a statement on the dismissal of British officers from the Zambia Defence Forces and the representations made regarding the manner in which these dismissals were carried out.
§ Mr. KershawThe officers concerned were not serving members of British Armed Forces but had been recruited directly by the Zambian Government for service with the Zambian Army. Her Majesty's Government were not a party to the contracts and were not consulted about their terms.
The termination of services was carried out in accordance with the provision of the contracts which allowed for them to be terminated in this fashion. Her Majesty's Government were not requested to make any representations and had no locus standi for doing so.
