§ Mr. Dalyellasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food to what extent the use of chemicals 2.4.D and 2.4.5T in British agriculture is known to his Department; and if he will take steps to phase out such use, in view of their teratogenic and long-term ill effects in agriculture, horticulture, and forestry.
§ Mr. Anthony StodartA few thousand gallons of 2.4.D and a much smaller 241W quantity of 2.4.5T are used annually for controlling weeds in the United Kingdom. My right hon. Friend does not intend to phase out their use because the Government's Advisory Committee on Pesticides and other Toxic Chemicals, which has the matter under continuous review, has advised him that this is unnecessary.
