HC Deb 18 January 1971 vol 809 cc225-6W
Mr. Skeet

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what proposals he has for dealing with congestion of traffic on the Bromham Bridge; and when he expects that development work will be completed;

(2) if he will state the cost of a Bromham by-pass and new bridge to obviate traffic blocks on the old bridge.

Mr. Michael Heseltine

We propose to construct a temporary Bailey bridge downstream of the existing bridge for westbound traffic. If the necessary land can be acquired without undue difficulty, the scheme could be ready to start within 12 months and would be completed in six months.

The estimated cost for a by-pass of Bromham, including a new river bridge is about £750,000.
