asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer if he will estimate the present purchasing power of the £ sterling as compared with 18th June, 1970.

Mr. Higgins

Taking the value of a pound to be 20s. in mid-June, 1970, its purchasing power in mid-November, 1970, the latest date for which information is available, is estimated at 19s. 5d.
