§ Mr. Peter Millsasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food whether he can now announce the result of his discussions with overseas Governments about the restrictions on the export of eggs from the United Kingdom.
§ Mr. PriorYes. Restrictions were imposed in 1957 upon exports of eggs from the United Kingdom to the traditional markets of the Netherlands and Denmark, in view of the heavy subsidies then payable upon eggs produced in this country. Circumstances have greatly changed in the intervening 13 years and we will shortly be moving to a free market in eggs. Following discussions with the Dutch and Danish authorities, I have decided that the restrictions are no longer necessary, and I have asked my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry to remove the controls with effect from 1st February.
