§ Mr. Dudley SmithNo special investigations are made for this purpose. Nor is the level of job availability precisely defined in terms of registered unemployed or notified vacancies. My Department's officers judge the matter by their overall knowledge of what is happening in the local labour market. Where, in their opinion, there are good prospects for men seeking unskilled work they advise the Department of Health and Social Security accordingly.
