asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what steps he has taken to draw the attention of the community to the serious health hazards involved in smoking tobacco;

(2) what steps he has taken to draw the attention of children and young people to the serious health hazards involved in smoking tobacco.

The Health Education Council regards smoking and health as its main priority. Its activities in recent months have included Press advertising, posters and the production of publicity material for use by local authorities. Future plans are under consideration.
