Dame Irene Wardasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will now give permission for the diary of Sir Thomas Preston, His Majesty's Consul at Ekaterinburg in 1918, to be published, as he was in a position to keep a record of the happenings on the day of the shooting of the Czar and his family.
§ Mr. Anthony RoyleI have been unable to trace any request from Sir Thomas Preston for permission to publish his diary. However, his reminiscencesBefore the Curtain, which include an account of these events were published in 1950 with the consent of the Foreign Office. Sir 23W Thomas Preston's official reports on events in Ekaterinburg in 1918 are available for inspection in the Public Record Office.
