Mr. David Clark

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (1) what was the annual timber production in each of the member countries of the European Economic Community in each of the last three years; and what were the comparable figures for the United Kingdom;

(2) how many acres of land in each of the member countries of the European Economic Community is at present afforested; and what is the comparable figure for the United Kingdom.

It is estimated that in June, 1969, there were about 17,700 employees in employment in forestry in the United Kingdom (Minimum List Heading 002 of the Standard Industrial Classification). No comparable statistics are available for the member countries of the European Economic Community.
