§ Mr. Martenasked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will list the Acts under which local authorities have powers to hold a referendum together with the statutory limitations upon such powers.
§ Mr. Graham PageSection 255 of the Local Government Act, 1933 and the Ninth Schedule require borough and urban district councils to hold a town poll in certain circumstances when promoting a Bill. The Schedule to the Sunday Entertainments Act, 1932 makes similar provision where such a council apply to the Secretary of State for the Home Department for an order extending Section 1 of the Act to their area.
