§ 158. Mr. Stanbrookasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what reply he has made to the complaint made to him by the Council of the London Borough of Bromley that, in the light of their obligations under the Caravan Sites Act, 1968, and their duty to the public, local authorities have insufficient legal and practical powers to tackle successfully the problems caused by gipsies.
§ Mr. Graham PageOwing to the postal strike no reply has yet been sent. I consider that the solution of problems caused by gipsies can be achieved by speedy provision of sites under the Act followed by designation under the Act.
