HC Deb 12 February 1971 vol 811 cc292-3W
Mr. Marten

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services how much the United Kingdom spends per capita on social welfare compared with each of the six countries of the Common Market. showing in addition the breakdown of expenditure by classes of welfare.

Mr. Dean

I regret that the information asked for is not available.

The only figures on a comparative basis relate to social security benefits and the national health services in the United Kingdom and corresponding schemes in the Six. The total current public expenditure in this part of the field (including administrative costs) was, in 1968, per head of population:

£
United Kingdom 91
Belgium 117
France 146
Germany 141
Italy 75
Netherlands 114
