HC Deb 08 February 1971 vol 811 c30W
Dr. John A. Cunningham

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications what steps the British Broadcasting Corporation is taking to improve the reception of radio and television in West Cumberland, with particular reference to the British Broadcasting Corporation television channel number one; and if he will make a statement.

Dr. John A. Cunningham

asked the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications when the British Broadcasting Corporation plan to extend the transmission of B.B.C.-2 to West Cumberland; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Chataway

The B.B.C., who are primarily responsible for the extension of the coverage of their services, tell me that transmissions of B.B.C.-1 and B.B.C.-2 on U.H.F. with 625-line definition and in colour are expected to begin from the Caldbeck station towards the end of 1971. More than half of West Cumberland will be able to receive these transmissions. They have no plans to improve reception of their radio services in West Cumberland.
