HC Deb 08 February 1971 vol 811 cc58-9W
Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for Employment (1) why the Knitting, Lace and Net Industry Training Board has not released figures to the British Lace Federation, although requested, on the levy/grant ratios applicable to lace manufacturers; and whether he will now request the Board to give this information;

(2) what exchanges the British Lace Federation has had with the Knitting, Lace and Net Industry Training Board; and whether he will inquire into the complaints of lace manufacturers about the Board's operations;

(3) how the levy/grant ratio for the lace industry last year and this year compares with the levy/grant ratio of other industries covered by the Knitting, Lace and Net Industry Training Board.

Mr. Bryan

There have been extensive discussions and correspondence between the British Lace Federation and the Board about the complaints of lace manufacturers. The matters at issue are for decision by the Board. I am informed that the Board intends to give information about levy/grant ratios for all industries within its scope in the 1970–71 annual report to be published in the summer.

Mr. Rost

asked the Secretary of State for Employment whether his review of industrial training boards, currently proceeding, will include an investigation into the operations and activities of the Knitting, Lace and Net Training Board.

Mr. Bryan

The review covers the activities of all industrial training boards.
