HC Deb 08 February 1971 vol 811 cc52-3W
Mr. Money

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what sources of employment have moved to the Ipswich area in the past year; and how many jobs they are likely to make available.

Mr. Dudley Smith

I am aware of 15 establishments which have opened in the Ipswich Employment Exchange area in the past year. In addition, I understand that during the past year industrial development certificates for projects in Ipswich have been issued to two firms not already in the area and that they have not yet moved there. It is estimated that these 17 establishments will eventually employ over 500 workers. This is not a comprehensive estimate of all the new employment opportunities which will become available for people in Ipswich over the next few years. For example, the dispersal to Martlesham, in the Woodbridge Employment Exchange area, of the Post Office Research Establishment is expected to provide a substantial number of additional jobs for people from Ipswich by 1975.
