HC Deb 08 February 1971 vol 811 c60W
126. Mr. Barry Jones

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food if he will list the number of fowl pest outbreaks in Wales; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

There have been 24 outbreaks involving nearly 302,000 birds in Wales during the period 26th October, 1970–7th February, 1971. These have occurred in 7 counties as follows:

Caernarvon 1
Cardigan 1
Denbigh 5
Flint 1
Glamorgan 4
Monmouth 10
Montgomery 2

I am very concerned to note that despite all our publicity, in 19 of the 24 cases, most of them involving small flocks, the birds were not properly vaccinated. It is essential that all flocks, however small, are properly vaccinated.
