79. Mr. Fred Evans

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many workpeople, male and female, respectively, have lost their employment since 30th June, 1970, through redundancy or closures of factories in the Rhymney, Pontlottyn, Bargoed, Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly and Senghenydd Labour Exchange areas.

Not all redundancies and closures are notified to my Department and our information is not therefore comprehensive. However, records show that the following numbers of workpeople lost their employment through redundancy or closures during the period 30th June, 1970, to 27th January, 1971—

asked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the current rate of male unemployment in the Pontlottyn, Bargoed, Ystrad Mynach, Caerphilly, and Senghenydd Labour Exchange areas.

Percentage rates of unemployment can be calculated only for complete travel-to-work areas. At 11th January the rate for males in the Bargoed travel-to-work areas which includes Blackwood as well as Bargoed,

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many men were registered as unemployed at

Pontlottyn and Ystrad Mynach Employment Exchange areas, was 9.1 per cent. Caerphilly and Senghenydd form only a small part of the Cardiff travel-to-work area for which the rate for males was 4.7 per cent.
