asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is the current annual cost to local authorities of the payment of union and/or Students' Representative Council fees of students in receipt of local authority financial assistance at institutions of further education.

I regret that this information is not available, but the Department is collecting relevant information in respect of a sample of colleges.

62. Rear-Admiral Morgan-Giles

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science whether she will withdraw Student Union subscriptions from the list of approved fees payable from contributions made by local authorities.
