HC Deb 04 February 1971 vol 810 cc453-4W
Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Lord President of the Council whether he is aware that the cost of secretarial services, including shorthand typists, for the last two years has risen by about 11 per cent., and that the average salary scale of a shorthand typist is now £21 per week; and what was the average wage for a shorthand typist on the date in October, 1964 when Members of Parliament's salaries were raised and for each calendar year since; and if he will submit these figures to the review body on Members of Parliament's and Ministerial salaries.

Mr. Whitelaw

I regret that details of the average salary paid to shorthand typists since October, 1964, is not available. For the rest of the Question, I would refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave him on 15th January.—[Vol. 809, c.138–9.]
