HC Deb 04 February 1971 vol 810 cc448-9W
Mr. Arthur Jones

asked the Secretary of State for the Social Services when he expects the publication of the Greve Report; and if he will set out the terms of its commission.

Sir K. Joseph

Publication is now expected early in April. The study was commissioned by my predecessor and is being paid for by my Department. Arrangements were made with Professor J. B. Cullingworth for the Centre for Urban and Regional Studies, Birmingham University, to undertake the work and to provide a research team which would work under the direction of Professor J. Greve of Southampton University. It was agreed that the Department would have an opportunity to comment before publication but it would be for the research team to decide what amendments if any should be made and for Birmingham University to publish the final report.

The main aims of the study were to answer in relation to Greater London such questions as: Who become homeless, why, and where do they come from? Who are admitted to temporary accommodation and by what process of selection? How long do they stay; what determines their length of stay, and what happens to them when they leave?
