asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science what is her estimate of the cost of training a fully qualified dentist, doctor and nurse, respectively; and if she will make a statement.

The best estimate I can give is that the cost of training, excluding any capital element, is of the order of £10,000 for a doctor and £9,000 for a dentist. I understand from my right hon. Friend the Secretary of State for Social Services that hospital authorities' expenditure on training nurses cannot be identified.
