Mr. Arthur Lewis

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer why he gave information to the United States Chamber of Commerce in London on Wednesday, 27th January, concerning a Government White Paper on a 20 per cent. cut in Government expenditure before the publication of the White Paper and its presentation to the House of Commons.

The figures which I quoted to the United States Chamber of Commerce were of the reduction in the rate of growth of public expenditure from 3.5 to 2.8 per cent a year. I gave this information to the House of Commons on 27th October.
