On 16th June, 1970, just under 33,400 persons were receiving supplementary benefits (including both pensions and allowances) in the areas covered by the Department's offices serving the county borough of Newcastle-upon-Tyne and the urban district of Newburn. On 15th December, 1970, the number was just over 34,100.
