asked the Secretary of State for Social Services where a retirement pensioner is precluded from obtaining supplementary benefit on the grounds that he is considered to have an excess of income over requirements, what is the maximum number of weeks' savings of this excess of income over requirements that he can be required to pay toward the cost of a pair of spectacles.

Three. Persons with an excess of income over requirements of less than 15s. a week can obtain full remission of National Health Service charges for spectacles within the usual limits.
