HC Deb 02 February 1971 vol 810 cc353-4W
Mr. Molyneaux

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what effect participation in the common agricultural policy of the European Economic Community is likely to have on the disparity in prices received by producers for fat and store cattle in different regions of the United Kingdom.

Mr. Anthony Stodart

The Common Market organisation for fat cattle at present in operation within the European Economic Community is designed to support a common level of prices throughout the Community, although market prices in different regions vary according to supply and demand. The application of these arrangements to the United Kingdom should not affect regional disparities in fat cattle prices determined by the operation of market forces. There is no Common Market organisation for store cattle.
