HL Deb 16 December 1971 vol 326 cc1335-6WA
LORD TREFGARNE

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When, if at all, the airfields at Stansted and Southend will have to be closed as a result of the Foulness Airport project.

LORD DRUMALBYN

Neither Stansted nor Southend Airport is likely to remain in use for public transport aircraft for long once the third London Airport is open. So far as air safety considerations are concerned, both airfields could still be used for private flying, at least in the early years of Foulness operations.
