§ Mr. HigginsI assume that my hon. Friend is referring to personal savings. The volume of National Savings increased by more than 6 per cent. in the 12 months ended October, 1971. The personal savings ratio in 1970 was 8.5 per cent. compared with 8.0 per cent. in 1969. Full figures for 1971 will not be available until the middle of next year but provisional estimates of the quarterly figures are published in Financial Statistics.
