§ 49. Mr. Ashleyasked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he will recommend the appointment of a Royal Commission to study the scale of poverty in Great Britain and its relationship to economic conditions, employment, and welfare benefits.
§ Sir K. JosephNo. I am not convinced of the need to appoint a Royal Commission when my Department, in consultation with the Departments of other Ministers, is actively engaged in the study of poverty and in implementing new policies to relieve it.
