Mr. Bishop

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services (1) what is his estimate of the weekly cost at the most recent date to social security of unemployment including unemployment benefit, supplementary allowances, family income supplement and other social security benefits;

(2) what is the average weekly amount paid in unemployment benefit in the most recent month.

In October, 1971, about £4½ million on unemployment benefit and £2½ million on supplementary allowances.
