§ Mr. Arthur Lewisasked the Secretary of State for Scotland to what extent the refusal to permit the continuation of sugar beet growing in Scotland is, or will be, affected by Great Britain's entry into the Common Market; and to what extent implementation of any or all of the Regulations of the European Common Market E2 to E2624 will affect the sugar beet industry in general, and that in Scotland in particular.
§ Mr. Gordon CampbellThere has been no such refusal. Paragraph 112 of the White Paper Cmnd. 4715, indicated that beet sugar production in the United Kingdom will continue to be limited until the end of 1974 in the light of the Government's obligations under the Commonwealth Sugar Agreement. Thereafter new arrangements will have to be negotiated within the enlarged E.E.C.
