§ 38. Mr. Bruce-Gardyneasked the Minister for the Civil Service what has been the total cost to public funds to date of the Civil Service Pay Research Unit, and if he will now terminate its activities.
§ Mr. David HowellThe total cost of salaries and general administrative expenses of the Civil Service Pay Research Unit from its establishment in 1956 up to the 31st March, 1971, was £944,250; estimated expenditure in 1971–72 is £115,500. I am satisfied that the contribution which the Unit has made to the good management of the Civil Service has fulfilled the intentions of the Priestley Commission of 1953–55 on whose recommendations it was established.
