§ Mr. Bishopasked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if she is aware of the concern regarding the standards of career guidance and advice given in schools and other educational establishments, and especially with regard to girls; if she will send a circular to local authorities on the need to remedy this situation; and if she will make a statement.
§ Mrs. ThatcherI welcome the growing recognition of the importance of careers education and guidance. Her Majesty's Inspectors are at present conducting a survey of careers education in schools, which will give a clearer picture of the scope of existing provision. When this information is available I shall be in a better position to decide whether further guidance should be given to local education authorities.
