HC Deb 05 August 1971 vol 822 c443W
Mr. Leslie Huckfield

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment whether he will publish details of accidents involving adults and children, respectively, on escalators on British Rail stations in each of the last five years.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

Following is the information:

ACCIDENTS CAUSING INJURY ON ESCALATORS AT BRITISH RAIL STATIONS
Year 1966 1967 1968 1969 1970
Adults injured 15 12 9 81 66
Children injured 0 0 0 8 4

Very few of these accidents involved other than minor injury. The small number of accidents on British Rail stations rose sharply in 1969, with the bringing into full use of escalators at Euston and Birmingham New Street.
