Mr. Bob Brown

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment (1) what is the total sum involved in the requests he has received to date from Newcastle-upon- Tyne for schemes to be covered by the recently announced public works programme; and, of this total, how much will be financed by central Government and how much will have to be paid by the ratepayers of Newcastle-upon-Tyne;

(2) what is the total sum involved in the requests he has received to date from local authorities in the Northern Region for schemes to be covered by the £26 million public works programme recently announced; and, of this total, how much will be Government financed and how much will have to be paid by the ratepayers of the region.
