HC Deb 05 August 1971 vol 822 c447W
Mr. Stallard

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the average waiting period for learner driving tests in the London area.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

Seven weeks on 16th July in the Metropolitan Traffic Area.

Mr. Stallard

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how many provisional drivers are awaiting the learner test in the North-West London area.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

5,098 on 2nd August at the centres at Barnet, Burnt Oak, Hendon, Mill Hill and Wealdstone.

Mr. Stallard

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment in view of the fact that, in spite of the increase in the driving test fee to £3.25 since the beginning of the year, there has been no improvement in the length of the waiting period for learner tests, what plans he has to improve the position.

Mr. Eldon Griffiths

Since the beginning of the year the national average waiting period has been reduced from just under 8 weeks to 5½ weeks.
