§ 53. Mr. Buchanasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what estimate his Department has now made of the effect of the economic measures of 19th July upon Scottish unemployment over the coming winter.
§ Mr. HigginsFollowing the measures announced on 19th July, I expect national output between the first halves of 1971 and 1972 to rise by between 4 and 4½ per cent., leading to a fall in national unemployment before very long. The measures, together with the substantial increase in public works which is planned for Scotland, should have a favourable effect on Scottish unemployment.
